-- Orders for Rich Dreher's CompactFlash for Apple II storage device have
been brisk, and less than 25 cards remain from the current run. Demand
may necessitate another batch of cards, but Mr. Dreher has not made that
determination yet, so anyone interested in getting a card should visit the
CFFA website as soon as possible. Able to use either a CompactFlash module
as a solid-state storage option, or as an IDE control card, the device has
proved popular with those folk who have used one. More information can be
found at: http://spudboy.dreher.net/CFforAppleII

-- Bill Garber has begun to accept orders for a second 50-card run of
4-meg memory cards for the IIGS. Designed with the help of Vince Briel,
these cards will give the GS users enough memory to run all version of
GS/OS as well as most memory-intensive programs. Ram cards are $49 with
simms and are fully tested. Without simms they are $44, and are tested
with simms to verify that they work only. More information as well as
ordering instructions can be found at:

--Software News:

-If you have fond memories of early Apple games where color was a major
upgrade, and the images were, by today's standards, a bit crude in
implementation, and you still played the game for hours, take a look at
Vince Weaver's space shooter Tom Bombem for the Apple IIe It features
joystick/paddle support, hi-score, scrolling background and an ending
cut-scene. It can be downloaded at:
http://www.deater.net/weave/vmwprod/tb1/tb_6502.html The file is saved in
multiple formats, including a ShrinkIt file as well as a zipped disk
image.

 - Kevin Sherlock has released a new New Desk Accessory (NDA) called
Silver Platter. The program turns your Apple IIGS computer into a web
server. Once configured, you can access files on your Apple IIGS using any
web browser, though currently you are limited to working with your local
area network only. File transfers can be used for full web sites,
individual folders or files, and can be used with any computer platform
that can access your LAN. Distributed by Syndicomm, more information
about this program, reasonably priced at $5.00, can be found at:
http://www.syndicomm.com/products/silverplatter/

 - The popular CiderPress disk image utility for Windows updated to
version 2.13, which now includes support for drives partitioned with the
MicroDrive card from ///SHH Systeme. The new release also now has a new
ProDOS volume handler which will detect garbage in the volume bitmap, and
other changes and bug-fixes. A $9.95 shareware program, more information
as well as download instructions can be found at:
http://www.faddensoft.com/ciderpress/index.htm

 - Interest in the Contiki operating system which would give 8-bit Apple
II users both a graphical desktop as well as a web browser continues. If
you're interested in what the program looks like, an early version of the
program, without an ethernet driver for the LANceGS card can be downloaded
from: http://www.jantzer-schmidt.de/contiki.dsk
